Dum Aloo Recipe Pancham, March 9, 2023March 10, 2023 Dum Aloo, also known as Aloo Dum or Dum Alu, is a classic Indian dish that originated in the northern region of India. It is a delicious and comforting dish that is perfect for a cozy dinner at home or a special occasion. The Dum Aloo Recipe is a dish consists of small potatoes cooked in a spicy and tangy tomato-based gravy. It is usually served with rice or Indian bread such as naan or roti. Ingredients: 500 grams small potatoes (Baby Potatoes) 2 tablespoons oil 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 onion, finely chopped 2 green chillies, chopped 2 cloves of garlic, minced 1 teaspoon grated ginger 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder 1 teaspoon coriander powder 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder 2 medium-sized tomatoes, chopped 1/2 cup water Salt to taste 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves For Garnish: 1 tablespoon fresh cream Chopped coriander leaves Instructions: Rinse the potatoes in cold water and scrub them well to remove any dirt. Prick them with a fork or knife and soak them in water for 10-15 minutes. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a deep pan or pressure cooker. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add the chopped onions, green chillies, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Sauté on medium heat for 3-4 minutes, or until the onions turn translucent. Add the turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook for 3-4 minutes or until the tomatoes are soft and mushy. Add 1/2 cup of water and salt to taste. Mix well and bring the gravy to a boil. Drain the soaked potatoes and add them to the gravy. Stir well, cover with a lid, and cook on medium heat for 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are cooked through. Once the potatoes are cooked, gently mash a few of them to thicken the gravy. Add more water if the gravy is too thick. Garnish with fresh cream and chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice or Indian bread such as naan or roti. Tips for our Dum Aloo Recipe: Use small potatoes for this recipe as they cook faster and absorb the flavors of the gravy better. Soaking the potatoes in water before cooking helps in removing any dirt and also helps in cooking them evenly. You can also add yogurt or cream to the gravy for a creamier texture.
